I am huge fan of the Edu-Scholar public influence rankings put out by Rick Hess (twitter: @richhess99) via Education Week every year. Here is the link to this year’s ratings, which were released last week:
I thought it would be interesting to aggregate the results by university to gain some understanding of the most influential universities in the educational world. To do this, I simply organized the individuals in the top 200 by school and aggregated their raw influence score per the RHSU ratings. The results are not surprising to a certain degree – Harvard and Stanford leading the pack makes sense. However, there are a few interesting tidbits: First, there are many schools that have only 1 or 2 in the top 200 including 4 such cases in the top 25 suggesting that some schools need to do more to spread the wealth of public influence. Second, many influential edu-scholars have no Klout account and thus no score. Klout is not the end-all-be-all, but it does suggest that some are ignoring potential new forms of influence on the Internet in favor of traditional measures. Last, it is excellent to see a solid representation of public universities in the top 25 and three in the top 20 – University of Virginia, UC Berkeley, and University of Washington.
